Our Speakers

Alain Khaiat, PhD

Dr. Khaiat was awarded the first in-cosmetics Lifetime Achievement Award in Paris in April 2010. With more than 34 years of experience in the cosmetic industry having served as Vice President R&D and Quality with Revlon, Yves Rocher and Johnson & Johnson; Alain Khaiat has created his consulting firm SEERS Consulting in 2006.

Dr. Khaiat is President of the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association of Singapore, the Vice President Technical and Scientific Affairs of the ASEAN Cosmetic Association, a member of the ASEAN Cosmetic Scientific Body. He is also a Senior International Expert on Cosmetics (Post Market Surveillance, Product Safety, Product Efficacy and Quality) with Organizations such as the European Commission, the World Bank and the UN-International Trade Center and a member of the IDEA (International Dialogue for the Evaluation of Allergens, a joint project between IFRA and the EU commission) Supervisory Group.

Ad Jespers, PhD

Dr Ad Jespers has over 20 years experience in the safety assessment and regulatory compliance of cosmetic and household products. He received his PhD in 1993 in Agricultural and Environmental sciences from the Agricultural University in Wageningen, The Netherlands. Dr Jespers was responsible in Sara Lee for setting up the safety assessment process for cosmetic products as required by the 6th amendment of the EU cosmetic directive in 1996. This was expanded to the technical claim substantiation for cosmetic claims later on.

After changing career to Sealed Air in 2011, Dr Jespers implemented the updated safety assessment requirements as required from the EU cosmetic recast for the Diversey brands and apply those principles across the globe. He is the Global Regulatory Assurance Director of Sealed Air and an expert of the ASEAN Cosmetic Association Safety & Toxicology Committee.

Keng-Meng Khoo, PhD., LLM (Distinction)

Dr Keng-Meng Khoo received his PhD in 1999 in Biochemistry at the National University of Singapore. He was awarded a Chevening Scholarship to study law in the UK and received his LLM with Distinction on Commercial Law from Aberdeen University, UK in 2003. Dr Khoo obtained his Certificate for the EU Safety Assessment in Cosmetics course at Vrije University, Belgium in 2008. He is currently a member of the ASEAN Cosmetic Association Safety & Toxicology Committee, Singapore National Mirror Working Group on ISO TC217 (cosmetics) and Singapore FMCG Working Group. Dr. Khoo is the Head of Regulatory Assurance (Asia Pacific) for Lonza Specialty Ingredients.

Kenkichi Fujii, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. 

In Medicine Dr. Kenkichi FUJII is a risk assessor of cosmetic ingredients, chemicals and food. After his research career as an Assistant professor at Graduate School of Medicine, Hokkaido University, he works at Kao R&D Safety Science which is responsible for developing as well as tracking global developments in safety assessment methods. Dr Fujii had been involved with ILSI Japan’s Risk Assessment Task Force, co-chaired the Japanese Society for Risk Analysis’s regulatory science task team, etc. Dr. Fujii is an expert of the ASEAN Cosmetic Association Safety & Toxicology Committee.

Paul Hepburn, B.Sc., PhD., IDT.

Dr Paul Hepburn has over 20 years experience in the safety assessment of food and cosmetic products. He received his PhD in 1990 in Experimental Cancer Chemotherapy from the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Aston in Birmingham, UK and his B.Sc. was awarded in Pathobiology from the Reading University, UK in 1986. Dr Hepburn has been actively involved with ILSI Europe for over 15 years, having been a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee as well as chairing a number of Task Forces and Expert Groups. Dr Hepburn is a Diplomat of the Institute of Biology in Toxicology (DIBT) and is on the European Register of Toxicologists. Dr Hepburn works for Unilever and is an expert of ASEAN Cosmetic Association Safety & Toxicology Committee.
